Finish Shaping Pad
The Fiberglass Hawaii Finish Shaping Pad is essential to any professional or aspiring shaper. This tool is most commonly used with full sheets of sand screen to achieve a smooth finish on various foam surfaces. This is a finishing tool so it is used after the more aggressive shaping tools have cut and shaped the blank. When used correctly, the finish shaping pad will clean up scratches and smooth out the surface in order to prepare the surface for glassing. Choose your grit, place it on the foam, place the flat side of the pad face-down and apply moderate pressure using your hand. For best results scrub nose to tail and use long, fluid motions opposed to short, choppy motions which will c...

Ask a surfer who their favorite shaper is and they’ll probably rattle off a few names. Ask a surfer who their favorite glasser is and you’ll probably hear crickets. Jack Reeves is one of a few, or maybe the only surfboa...

Futures Fin Box Repair Using Aluzine Epoxy Resin
Просмотров 68 тыс.9 лет назад
This week we are going to repair a Futures fin box using our Aluzine 2:1 surfboard epoxy resin. Due to the design of the Futures fin box, it’s pretty rare to have a box blow out completely. More often than not the damaged box remains in the board. This could be good or bad depending on the severity of the damage. If it’s really bad then you’ll have to either remove the box from the board or slo...

Просмотров 156 тыс.9 лет назад
A proper sand job is essential to the ride, feel and aesthetic of a surfboard. There are a ton of ways to sand a board and just as many finishes which really gives each brand or glass shop their own personal stamp. With so many ways to sand a board it’s still very easy to spot an amateur sand job because the only way to get good at sanding is to sand hundreds, even thousands of surfboards. It’s...

Fiberglass Hawaii Honolulu Shop Tour
Great vid. You've got a great voice for surf movie narration. I was all ready for you to say " ..and here's Mike enjoying some leg burning Bruce's Beauties...".
A good sander is as important as a good shaper because the he/she does the last bit of the 'shaping' . Unsung heroes of surfboard production .
Shaping is so much more difficult than I ever expected. With no guidance or mentor it takes alot of boards before you start to feel even remotely familiar- and thats just one style/shape
When you’re laminating with the fiber glass, how do you estimate the coat thickness? Thanks
I got to know Joe Kuala who worked out of that Ala Moana shop.... Hope Jack saw him before he passed on First 360 off that board many years ago.. that Joe glassed and shaped. Great work Jack
Jack needs to run a masters class
Will this same method work for original fcs x2 plugs?
This man was very very special to the surf world especially Hawaiian surf culture. RIP Ben Aipa I feel like it was a honor to grow up being younger seeing you come around every so often at Hookipa beach park. You really deserve so much respect for what you did for surfing. I will forever have upmost respect for the Aipa name.
There are brackets that go from housing of Surform to the blade. You did not show where those go. That is the only reason I watched this and it was not shown.
Maui Ripper Ole is Da-man!
Mahalo to Ted Wilson as well! Thanks for all the glassing supplies & support. Aloha 🌅🌊🤙🏽
Genuine Craftsmanship & humble, giving, nice guy, surfer. 100% Mahalo JR for sharing your aloha.🌅🌊🤙🏽

I miss you Ben. Thank you for being my friend and making my board. I will never part with it. May God always be with you my man. Aloha oe'
De que material es el logo de tu marca? Es de papel?
Hey what polish do you use? thanks :)
Two names I would love to have penciled on one of my boards .
Tried it and it looks like someone smeared turds on my board. I call it punk rock board.
You didn’t explain it very well. Kill the music!
Can you tell me where I can buy the surfboard polish and the glue that you use for the sanding pads. Also, what polishing pad do you use?
One of my favorite board was a 7' 2' little gun. back in 1969
wow!
Nice scissors

I really miss the great shaper Mike Eaton! The bonzer! Thank you Mike and Ace!
That Versa Plane 653 planer that he is using is a well kept secret. Its an excellent alternative to the Skil planer. In the 90's before Ebay when I couldnt find a Skil planer, I found the 653. Its awesome.
Can I get in india
43 years ago Ben Aipa made me a custom 8 foot x 22 inch wide nose rider when I moved to Hawaii to learn how to surf ... its a beautiful white board with a concaved yellow section under the nose and 2 yellow channels near the tail .. and a light blue movable fin ! I loved surfing on it and I still have it today !
Rame, sound check please
His face changed when he said he has friends under the ground. 🥲
This is a sick video
Thank you! only too professional for me
One Pono Brother! Aloha Otis!
Thanks Mate, great tutorial, appreciate the effort you’ve gone to to produce this. Cheers
Great video. Short and to the point.
4:30 When you wrap the Fiberglass cloth around the rails and tuck it underneath the board, does Gravity want to pull the cloth downwards or is the resin sufficient to hold the cloth to the bottom of the board?
holds it place easy :)
Can you use vacuum bagging to pull out water out of a board before fixing a ding?
Where would one find "surfboard polish" .
is this applied to sanded finished? does the pin line need sanding/hotcoat?
Excellent video man! Helped me a lot with my ding repair! Giving my repair guy a break and trying to teach myself haha
Any idea where can i buy a future sup handle from, trying to get one in the UK but no joy 😕
Looks good 👍
The guy is a craftsman.
At 7:52... I believe it!! I know from personal experience, it's very easy to get air bubbles on the rail or on the lap underneath. I tend to only see them AFTER the resin has dried. Also the cloth can bunch up on the lap too. Swallow tails and wings are especially challenging - you should do a video on laminating those.
Avoid laminating when the temperature goes up. Or do it in a room where temperature is steady.
600 grit...is very fine??
Is that a 1990's era Jazz cup you're using to hold the resin? Practically an antique.
